The Licking County Republican Party lost a great woman trailblazer today.  With much sadness, Keith Alexander let us know that his mother, Jane Alexander passed away peacefully this morning.  Republican for… probably 90 years for those who knew Jane that is not a stretch.  Jane was legendary for her unwaivering support of Republican candidates.  Her debates or discussions with fellow republican friends were sometimes the most challenging discussions or debates you would face – even from opposition.  Jane made you think. She made you work hard.  She made you take a stand.  She required everyone in the Licking County Republican Patriots Club to pick a candidate each election and work to elect that candidate.  Being the “foot soldiers” for Republicans was her passion.  Jane always walked and enjoyed walking door to door, registering voters, meeting voters and working the headquarters or various political booths at the strawberry festival, Hartford fair and at most political events.  More than 50+ years involvement with the Republican party.  Jane worked at the Board of Elections, served on Newark City Council, member of the Republican Women’s Club, served as elected long-time member of Republican Central Committee and served on the Republican Party Executive committee up until her passing.  Jane was proceeded in death by her husband, Jim Alexander, (mayor of Newark 1968-1971) passed in 2009.
