Johnstown Highlights Reviewed – By Cheryl Robertson, Johnstown Council Member

The Johnstown community proudly opened its new elementary school, this past September. The children, teachers, and community are enjoying the beautiful new facility.  In January, the new Johnstown High School will open its doors. The middle schoolers will take over the previous high school building next September.  Johnstown is working closely with the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority in the development of the Johnstown Commerce Center, which will be located off Duncan Plains, near Mink Street.  The new Mink Street interchange will allow easy access to this site.  Concerning private investments, Hopewell Federal Credit Union just opened, O’Reilly’s is under roof, and the new Troyers Marketplace is looking to open in early winter. Finally, as Western Licking County is experiencing tremendous growth in population and businesses, we must plan accordingly.  The Western Licking County Accord was established as a shared planning agreement between the City of New Albany, Jersey Township, and the Village of Johnstown, to help prepare us for the many changes growth will bring along with coordinated planning efforts across the jurisdictional boundaries.   Johnstown Village Council will vote on the proposal in early 2018.
